the Corner shop

What would our streets look like without

brick-and-mortar?

A store, so often the corner store, can be more than just a place to spend your dollars. Tucked in between the departments stores and retail giants are those singular shops with stories to tell. These are the shops in which you can lose hours discovering the marvels of each nook and cranny. With Conversations, we are spotlighting the creatives behind this brick-and-mortar magic, getting a glimpse at their curation process and other treasures inside their craniums.

I opened GOLDEN RULE as a reaction to not being able to have a baby. I decided to have a shop baby. And it just seemed like I should try to build the most loving, beautiful, and life-giving place possible. It’s that constant reminder that we are called to be servants to one another.
— Erin Duininck, Golden Rule Gallery Shopkeeper
SouthSide’s hours are intentionally limited (usually every other weekend) so that Susan has time not only to scout the best stuff, but to display it in a way that makes her shoppers say, “Wow, I could totally see that in my living room.”
